Selective Enrollment Information
7th grade is a huge year for students wanting to attend Selective Enrollment high schools. A point system is used for high schools to determine which students are admitted. The point system is out of 1000 and it works like this:
100 points are for attendance. Two points are deducted for each absence.
300 points are for grades in math, science, social studies, and language arts. An “A” is worth 75 points, with a 25 point deduction for each grade lower than an “A.”
300 points are for ISAT scores in math and reading. They use a sliding scale which is further explained here.
300 points are for the Selective Enrollment test which is usually given in December and January. They use a similar sliding scale which can also be found at the above link.
The top schools are extremely competitive to get into, and the scores continue to rise, but Beaubien students have consistently got into the very top schools. A sample of the average point values needed to be accepted into the schools can be found here.
